WHITE EMPEROR

Gallery Tom Christoffersen presents the solo exhibition WHITE EMPEROR, showing new works by Anders W. Ø. Larsen.

You find impossible distances and overwhelming subjects in Anders W. Ø. Larsen’s ethereal landscapes. They are scenarios, which at the same time seems to be founded and disappear.

The drama of the quadratic paintings is caused by the difference in scale between: small collages of humans and animals in the paintings middle distance, and the gigantic mountain crests, ice caves, sun sets or volcanic eruptions in the background.

Although these worlds freeze motionless in the centre of the picture plane, the paintings are far from static. All along the periphery, the edges seem to continuously melt the recognisable to strokes on opaque colour planes. A disintegration of the quadratic format, which makes the paintings shift between figurative and abstract, permanent and temporal – between imploding and exploding.
